Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement
Postgraduates interested in refining their spoken English skills and building their confidence in oral communication for everyday as well as academic purposes are invited to enrol on our popular Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement modules.
Targeting troublesome areas of English pronunciation, Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement 1 provides guided practice on sound production, word and sentence stress, intonation and fluency improvement as students work to develop clearer and more 'natural-sounding' English.
Those with demonstrated good oral communication skills and students who have progressed from Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement 1 are invited to enrol on Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement 2, where the focus is on building discussion skills and spoken clarity. Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement 3 (offered only in the Spring semester) proceeds to address issues of accent amelioration and subtleties of intonation, with an emphasis on strategies for discussion, negotiation and public speaking.
At all levels ample opportunities are provided for conversation and discussion activities, both for everyday and academic purposes, and activities focus on developing public speaking, oral presentation and seminar leadership skills.
Placement on these modules is by interview with the English Language Unit. See below for details.
