Hamzah completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2006 at the University Science Malaysia. His enthusiasm in research began when he was entrusted by the Prof. Zainul Fadziruddin Zainuddin, Dean, School of Health Sciences (USM) to characterize the Mycobacterium tuberculosis KatG gene during his final year project.
He later received a scholarship from the Malaysian Government to study at Master’s level for two years at La Trobe University, Australia. On the successful completion of his first year with distinction, he was awarded a scholarship from the Biochemistry Department ,La Trobe University for his research in second year of study. Under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Maier, he did research on heat induced exported DnaJ in Plasmodium falciparum that involves a lot of malaria parasite culture and molecular biology techniques including genomic integration through homologous recombination.
Upon completion of his Master degree, he was hired by The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) as tutor in the Biomedical Science Department. He is currently, equipped with experiences and knowledge through workshops and conferences that he attended, such as proteomic workshop at Edinburgh University, X-ray microscopy workshop at La Trobe University Australia, Malaria in Melbourne Conference at Walter Eliza Health Insitute, research methodology by IIUM and International Conference on Advancement in Science and Technology (iCAST). He was recently entrusted by the Malaysian Government with the award of scholarship for PhD studies at Keele University under the supervision of Dr. Srabasti J Chakravorty.
