My early career was spent as a Biomedical Scientist for the NHS, Specialising in Immunology and transplantation. I obtained a MSc in Pathological Science from Sheffield University in 1998. Subsequently, I completed a (part-time) PhD in molecular genetics/statistics at Keele University in 2004. The PhD allowed me to cross-train as a Clinical Scientist, gaining HPC registration in 2005. The next 6 years were spent as a departmental manager with research interests in haematological malignancy and coeliac disease. Although I have previously taught at a number of Universities (Keele, Wolverhampton and Ulster), I moved to Keele in June 2012 to take up my first academic position.
