"The colony may not survive because it is very small and the weather is bad, but we shall try to feed it as much as we can to help it survive." - Dr Kirk

A small colony of honeybees has been installed in the observation hive on the first floor of the Huxley Building.

Dr William Kirk, Senior Lecturer in Ecology and Entomology, who installed the colony, is on the Council of the International Bee Research Association and is Vice-President of the North Staffordshire Beekeepers' Association.

Please take a look when you are next passing the Huxley Building: the queen is easy to find because she is marked with a white spot.
