'The winners took away a box of chocolates; the team that 'did less well' went away with a lemon (which could be used in a G + T)' - Brenda Bould, Senior technician and Treasure Hunt organiser

The traditional Life Sciences Treasure Hunt took place on Wednesday 26th September, with over 90 new students taking part.

The students teamed up in groups of 4-6 and braved the weather to search for items ranging from the Metasequoia (redwood) trees on Keele campus to the price of a student bus fare.  Bonus tasks included finding the biggest dock leaf: a whopping 30cm for the winning team, whose find merited three bonus points.  The scores ranged from 13 to 29 with most teams achieving around 20 points.  School technician Brenda Bould, who organised the event, noted that noone answered the question ‘how many columns are there in Union Square?’ correctly: this new sculpture commemorates Keele's 50th birthday and contains an appropriate 50 - not 40 - columns!

At the end of the event, the winners took away the spoils of a box of chocolates, while the team that 'did less well', in a tactful description from Deputy Head of School Peter Thomas, went away with a lemon.  All students were then offered drinks and the chance to mingle with staff and other freshers.
