The following services provide Keele users with free full-text access to large numbers of newspapers:

17th and 18th Century Burney Collection
The newspapers and news pamphlets gathered by the Reverend Charles Burney (1757 - 1817) represent the largest single collection of 17th and 18th century English news media. The 700 or so bound volumes of newspapers and news pamphlets were published mostly in London, however there are also some English provincial, Irish and Scottish papers, and a few examples from the American colonies, Europe and India

19th Century British Library Newspapers
The 19th Century British Library Newspapers collection contains full runs of 48 newspapers specially selected by the British Library to best represent nineteenth century Britain. This new collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as those from both established country or university towns and the new industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands, as well as Scotland, Ireland and Wales

ProQuest UK News Stand
This service provides the searchable full text of articles published in all major British newspapers. Each publication can also be browsed. For off-campus log-in click here

NexisUK
A news and business service which includes approximately 12,000 publications from worldwide national & local newspapers, press releases, transcripts of tv broadcasts, newswires, statistical bulletins, magazines and trade journals. The business section provides information on major UK and international companies. In some cases coverage goes back twenty years. Access is by ATHENS authentication

The Times Digital Archive - 1785-2006
Researchers can search through the complete digital edition of The Times (London), using keyword searching and hit-term highlighting to retrieve full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching

Individual full-text newspapers and newspaper indexes

Some titles are available in the Library in print or microform, for a full list please see the Checklist of selected newspaper titles. Printed and microform newspapers can also be found by title in the online catalogue.

Numerous other newspapers have web sites providing free partial content, and/or a pay-to-view full-text archive.

Guardian Unlimited
Internet edition of The Guardian and Observer newspapers. Searchable archive of articles from September 1998. Almost the complete text (a small number of articles are omitted, mainly for copyright reasons), with additional news and information.

Telegraph.co.uk
Searchable archive of The Daily and Sunday Telegraph. Free registration required to access full text. Editions more than 5 years old are not available, and some articles are excluded.

Times Higher Education Supplement
The Times Higher Internet Service. Summary of current issue, various news services and (for subscribers only) a full-text archive from Oct. 1994. Access details for Keele users

The Times
Comprehensive interactive edition of the The Times and The Sunday Times. Last 7 days available free. Archive of back issues from 1985 available on a fee-paying basis.

The Time Educational Supplement
A searchable archive of the TES and current material including jobs, contributions from teachers sharing their home-grown resources. There’s a Blogs section, plus reviews of books, software and other published resources.
