PhD Exchange Fellowships between Keele University and the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai 2013-2015

‌Please note that applications for the above fellowships are now welcome from PhD students currently studying within the RI for Social Sciences. (deadline for applications: 31st May 2013)

Successful applicants will receive funding to study for three (3) months in India. Funding will support travel, accommodation, expenses and study facilities. While in India you would continue with your PhD study but would have the opportunity to complete comparative work, field work, outreach work as well as engaging with local institutions.   

The PhD exchange programme has been pioneered by the UGC UKIERI Thematic Partnership in Research Innovation, 2012, led by Dr Jane Krishadas as Director of Legal Outreach and Prof Lakshmi Lingam as Deputy Director of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences of the new campus in Hyderabad. The stated aims of the programme are:

To pioneer an 'International outreach methodology' in social and legal research, review current social and legal education in the UK and in India, to locate/develop pathways for relevant postgraduate and doctoral level education which will draw on action research, to encourage use of innovative methods to facilitate knowledge transfer and critical knowledge production, and to promote the analysis of the intersections of knowledge creation between UK-India scholars and community partners.

In order for current students to apply please forward to Dr Krishnadas a 500 word statement that answers the following question: 

'How may your specific PhD research project be enhanced through the experience of action research, reflective practice and community engagement within an India/UK context'
