Daria joined the School of Law in January 2013 from the University of Nottingham, where she is finalising her AHRC-funded PhD research on the interplay between international investment law and international human rights law in conflict zones. In Nottingham, Daria was responsible for the LLM module of International Protection of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, and she tutored undergraduate students in Contract Law and Public Law.
Daria holds an LLM in Human Rights from the University of Nottingham, a Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) from BPP Law School in London, and a BA and MA in Conference Interpreting and Translation (Italian, English and German) from the University of Bologna in Italy.
Daria has worked for various national and international NGOs, involved in human rights in armed conflict and peacebuilding. She also worked with the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) as a Human Rights Field Officer and as a consultant for the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
Daria’s main research interest is in the protection of human rights in situations of armed conflict, with a special focus on the relationship between international investment law and international human rights law in these contexts. Her current research is on the impact of bilateral investment treaties on the protection of the right to water in Afghanistan.
Daria would be happy to supervise research in the areas of business and human rights; international investment law and human rights; international human rights law in armed conflict; international refugee law; and in areas related to the protection and promotion of economic, social and cultural rights more generally.
