Globalisation and International Law
Introducing GAIL
Keele has a long tradition of academic experise in the field of international law. The Law School has been home to leading scholars such as Michael Akehurst and Patrick Thornberry, whose work has shaped the discipline of international law in profound and lasting ways. To this day, international law continues to be a major aspect of the Law School's teaching and research activities.
The Globalisation and International Law (GAIL) Research Group acts as a centre within which staff and research students come together to develop richer, critical understandings of international law in its many forms. GAIL supports research in three key areas: public international law, human rights law, and European law. Scholars within the group have produced leading work on issues as varied as transnational organised crime, state responsibility for corporate human rights violations, sex trafficking, medical tourism, European disability rights, international courts and tribunals, and more generally the theory and history of international law.
Activities:
Among its varied activities, GAIL organises an International Law Seminar Series, welcomes guest speakers and researchers, and hosts the Keele International Law Public Lectures. GAIL is also an academic home for staff and students of Keele’s LLM in International Law.
