On Wednesday 16th November, the latest in our regular series of Student/Alumni networking events took place in the Birmingham office of national law firm Berrymans Lace Mawer. The event hosted by BLM partners (and Keele alumni), Chris Wiggin and Ray Southern and attended by 30 Keele students and 10 alumni, was designed to give current Keele students the opportunity to learn from the experiences of successful Keele graduates in the legal profession.

Head of the Law School, Dr Andrew Francis said ‘This was a fantastic event, and you really got a sense of our students being inspired by the successful careers that our alumni have built.’ Chris Wiggin, Senior Partner at Berrymans Lace Mawer said ‘I remember my years at Keele with great affection, and it is good to meet with current students to discuss their plans and give advice and help where we can. We have an ex-Keele student with us at Berrymans and have just taken on another.’ Current Keele third year student Hannah Storey said that the visit was ‘a great opportunity to meet key people in the firm and get an insight into what life as a solicitor and trainee is truly like.’ Sefer Mani, President of the Keele Bar Society, said that ‘talking to alumni helps increase your confidence, inspiring you by what they have done, and also learning how to present yourself to stand out from the competition. I would encourage law students to attend these events as they are truly rewarding.’

The Alumni/Student networking events are an important aspect of a number of careers events and other activities designed to strengthen the employability of our graduates. An extensive and structured programme of co-curriculum activities forms a key part of the development of the distinctive attributes of Keele Law Graduates. The next in the series of events will be held in the London offices of Pinsent Masons in the spring, and other smaller-scale events will take place at Keele throughout the academic year.
