Kiran Desai
"I read law and economics, with honours in Latin and computer science. At first I didn't know if I wanted to be a lawyer or an economist. My experience at Keele enabled me to develop my legal career well beyond what first I conceived it might be. I thought I would likely be a Solicitor in London working in company law or financial services law. Whilst this is how I started, I then established the law firm's Brussels office, specialising in EU law and in particular competition law. In the last several years I have also been engaged in International law, such as the laws of the sea or of the UN. The breadth of learning at Keele has served me well, as has its natural encouragement of flexibility in thinking, allowing me to adapt to changes in the legal world. As for life at Keele, my memories remain strong of first true love, great friends and the comfort that comes from community in a campus university."
