Overview
This one day course is for all teachers and science leaders wishing to develop an approach to improve and demonstrate their students’ progress and attainment in scientific knowledge, understanding and skills.
We will take it from considering the information that helps identify where your students are starting from, into lesson planning and on to helping individuals achieve - whilst making all this visible to the student, the teacher, the school and the inspector. A spectrum of progress measures - from simple test and target information; to using the characteristics of levels and GCSE grades; and other ways of sharing and showing progress (including SOLO taxonomy) – will all be considered, leading you towards an intelligent and informed approach for your students’ learning. We will reflect on some of the research into the teaching strategies which impact most on student learning, and you will also come away with further ideas on differentiation and developing students' self-evaluation in science.
This course is relevant to secondary science teachers at Key Stages 3 and 4. Aspiring and current subject leaders, and others with responsibility for ensuring progress, maintaining standards, and promoting achievement in science departments, will be able to apply ideas across the whole science curriculum.
