Course Information

The Dual Honours Accounting course is now provided for those students who want to combine the study of accounting with a range of other disciplines across the humanities, sciences and social sciences, within Keele’s well known Dual Honours framework. Whilst it is a strongly vocational subject, accounting draws upon principles from a range of the social sciences, including economics, law and management; as well as subjects such as mathematics and computing. The degree will enable students to develop their knowledge and understanding across some of these discipline areas.

Modules on the course are accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), who are global professional accountancy bodies offering internationally recognised professional qualifications in financial and management accounting. The accreditation will provide students with exemptions from the examinations of these professional accounting bodies.

Accountancy has been cited in previous years as having the highest rate of employment for graduates. This degree will provide a stepping stone for students wishing to pursue a career in accountancy, but will also provide a solid grounding for students wishing to follow many other careers in the wider business world.

As well as developing subject-specific skills, this course will equip students with a wide range of transferable skills enabling them to undertake research, work independently or in a group, manage their time efficiently, interpret and evaluate information and develop their communication and writing skills. All these skills are highly valued by prospective employers

Students take four modules each year on the principal. These build sequentially so as to enable the student to develop understanding of the subject progressively over the three years of their degree.

Level 1

In the first year, students will undertake two core modules in accounting and two  recommended electives in related subjects.

Level 2

In the second year, students will extend their studies in accounting with two core modules and two further recommended electives.

Level 3

The final year will see students deepening their knowledge of accounting to an advanced level with two core modules in accounting and a further two modules from a selection of accounting electives. This allows students to undertake a more advanced study of topics that they have already encountered in earlier years.
