How your organisation could benefit from an internship
Keele Management School’s internship programme provides an opportunity for many types of organisation to benefit from the knowledge and enthusiasm of bright, highly motivated students who are keen to learn and eager to produce work of a high standard under the supervision of a senior Keele academic.
Interns could help you to complete ‘real projects’ which may have been difficult to achieve due to staffing levels and workloads, within a realistic timescale and at little cost.
Our students are exposed to the latest developments in organisations and research to offer critical insights into the theory and practice of modern management and international business. They will have studied:
- Critical management
- Global business analysis
- Financial markets and investments
- Marketing and operations management
and have developed skills in entrepreneurship and leadership
How does it work for organisations?
Internships take place during the summer for between 8 and 10 weeks. We would normally require details of your project during February/March and the following process then takes place during April and May for projects to commence during June/July as specified by yourselves.
Once you have sent details of your project to Keele Management School, you will be contacted by a member of staff who will ensure that:
- the projects are advertised to the students
- who are then asked to complete a formal application form along with a covering letter, highlighting why they are the ideal candidate for the job, and a short curriculum vitae.
- applications will be forwarded to you for selection
- a formal interview will be arranged in the School with a representative from your company and a Keele academic
- the selected intern will then commence an 8 to 10 week placement with you
- you will be supported by a Keele academic and administrative member of the School throughout the project
- at the end of the project you will be invited to attend a presentation about the internship by the student
The Intern Experience….
Jeng Lim, MSc Project Management,
“From day one, I was required to study the business processes, the organisation’s requirements and goals, as well as independently plan my approach to delivering the project…This challenge motivated me to perform at my best. I was able to use this opportunity to apply my classroom knowledge in a real working environment. This is when you will discover the ‘I never knew that this really works,’ ‘This doesn’t work well in this condition,’ and ‘It is more complicated than that….’ ”
On completion of his internship, Jeng was offered full time employment with the host company.
David Holmshaw, MA International Business,
“…it was hugely rewarding. What set the experience apart from any other was the ability to work on a new plan for the company, and then, rather than just stopping there to get the go ahead to work with everyone to see it through. To any future candidates I would say, If you’ve got the ability to think big and to create a vision, but the energy and the passion to inspire, then this is surely the perfect chance for you. At the end we were all left with a great feeling that we’d tried something new and made it work, and that’s a wonderful thing to look back on.”
