Membership / How to Join Keele World Affairs
12/11/2012: There is intense interest in joining World Affairs and finite seating capacity, so we have established a waiting list system and will enrol more new members as soon as we can. Follow this link to join the waiting list and you will be able to enter your details in a registration form. You will then be added to the World Affairs waiting list which is maintained in the order that requests are received.
Unless our attendance rates fall, the next opportunity to enrol is likely to be next summer in advance of our season starting at the end of that September. Once you are on the waiting list, your details will be retained until we can offer you membership or until you request to be removed from the list. If a couple wish to join the waiting list, please complete two forms as membership is on an individual basis.
Before adding your name to the waiting list, please read the notes below and remember that it is a continuing adult education programme and you will be expected to attend on a regular basis.
If you are not on email, you can write to Keele World Affairs, c/o SPIRE, Chancellor's Building CBA1.017, Keele University, Keele, Staffordshire ST5 5BG
Once on our waiting list, you do not need to re-apply in future years if we cannot offer you membership immediately. We deal with everyone in strict order.
Q: Who can join Keele World Affairs?
The World Affairs programme is open to the general public without geographical restriction. All we ask is that you have an interest in a wide range of issues and will regularly support the series. The main exclusion is students at Keele University, who have their own academic lectures.
Q: Do I have to attend all the lectures or can I pick and choose?
In principle, members sign up for the year’s programme though obviously it may be difficult to attend every lecture. We wish to avoid a member joining and simply cherry-picking one or two ‘famous’ speakers. Our goal is to have a 300+ audience every week as this is a big selling point when we invite further speakers.
Q: May I attend as a guest of a member?
Members are asked not to bring guests as this could cause an imbalance in numbers and seating problems.
Q: How much does membership cost?
Our policy is to keep the membership fee as low as possible so that Keele World Affairs is accessible to all members of the community.
Currently individual membership costs £28 [£14 for retired individuals] for the series of lectures listed on our website for autumn and spring terms. By any standards, this is a remarkably low cost for up to 24 stimulating and interesting events.
Note: If any special events are planned, there may be a separate charge.
Q: How do I enrol?
- Apply to join the waiting list as explained at the top of the page
- When we can increase membership, we will email you or write to you, offering membership and inviting you to pay the appropriate membership fee.
- Once you have paid, you can attend our meetings and will receive updates if you are on e-mail. A personalised membership card will be ready for collection in the first few weeks of the new season.
