What is Unifest?
Unifest is a three day residential stay here on Keele campus for Year 11 students, and is often the event that young people really enjoy and engage with.
The mix of academic lectures, workshops and guest speakers combined with the opportunity to stay in student accommodation gives attendees a real-life university experience.
The evenings see a range of social activities from a disco and karaoke in the Students’ Union, through to late night ghost walks in the woods.
Attendees will dine in Keele Hall or Comus restaurant giving them the opportunity to make new friends over some of Keele's finest Cuisine. Keele Student Ambassadors will act as a moral and geographical guides, staying with them for the whole time they are with us.
How much will Unifest cost?
The whole event, including accommodation, transport and food is funded by Keelelink, meaning absolutely no cost to you the school nor the individual learner.
How will they get there?
Attendees will be picked up and dropped off at meeting points that will be local to you, either your school, a bus station or a church, for example, on 16th July 2013.
Your learner will need to be accompanied by an adult until the coach arrives to collect them, where they will be greeted by our Student Ambassadors and brought to Keele.
They will be dropped off at the same location at the conclusion of the event, where there will need to be an adult waiting to collect them
Keelelink Unifest is a loco-parentis event, so no teachers or parents will be present at the event.
Do they need to be local?
Learners do not need to be local, our coaches will travel far and wide to collect them. In exceptional circumstances, we can come to alternative arrangements, such as a Student Ambassador meeting them at a train station for example.
How do they apply?
The application form can be found at summerschool.keelelink.co.uk
To register for Unifest they will have to meet HEFCE's WP requirements. There are a number of different criteria that we look at to see if students meet these requirements; for example, living in a low participation area, parents occupations being in the NS-SEC 4-8 remit or having a disability.
You can contact keelelink@keele.ac.uk if you have any issues
How can I encourage my students to apply?
We have a team of Unifest Ambassadors who are more than willing to come to your school to deliver a talk on Unifest application. This works particularly well for Year 11 assemblies.
You can also direct them to summerschool.keelelink.co.uk to apply
Any other questions can be directed to keelelink@keele.ac.uk
