Study Support E-mentoring - Information for Schools
Our highly successful E-mentoring project pairs learners in Years 10 and 11 with current Keele undergraduates who provide them with practical support, guidance and friendly advice about their studies.
The pair communicate regularly via our brand new secure, monitored website that has been specifically designed for the purpose and also provides a range of fun, interactive activities, articles and resources to support their studies.
What is E-mentoring?
Mentoring has become a popular intervention method, and e-mentoring allows for greater involvement in such a scheme as it is flexible across time and distance. An e-mentor can provide learners with similar support to that of a face-to-face mentor, and research suggests that mentees often discuss subjects online that they might not feel comfortable discussing face-to-face, such as their fears or worries about going to university.
Our brand new E-mentoring system, hosted by the Brightside Trust, offers a number of exciting opportunities for learners, including:
•A secure conversation space which enables mentors to have confidential discussions with their mentees.
• A bright and exciting Homepage which provides easy access to messages, resources and activities in one place.
•Over 1,000 news stories and resources in the regularly updated online Bright Knowledge library.
•Coaching activities developed in collaboration with students and advisers, designed to build key skills such as time management, study techniques, money management and confidence.
How can I get involved?
We encourage schools to sign up groups of learners and a member of the Keelelink Team will come to your school to deliver an Introduction to E-mentoring Session. This session lasts approx 1 hour and involves introducing learners to E-mentoring, training on how to use the Keelelink E-mentoring website and creating their e-mentoring accounts.
Please contact us if you have a group of Year 10 or 11 students that would benefit from this scheme.
