Institute of Physics Lecture - Defying Gravity

2013 Lecture – Defying Gravity: Make physics your launchpad

Find out how scientists and engineers are using physics to explore the cosmos.

This inspiring lecture will reveal how:

  • physics has allowed us to travel into space;
  • entrepreneurs are opening up space to new generations through space tourism.

Presenter
The lecture will be delivered by Laura Thomas. Laura has an undergraduate degree in Astrophysics from the University of Edinburgh. She has extensive outreach experience having worked for Queen Mary, University of London for the previous six years. Laura is a professional science communicator who visits many schools each year to talk on diverse topics. She is an ESERO Space Ambassador.

Audience: 14 – 16 year olds

Date: Wednesday April 17th 2013

Time: 10:30 am and 1:00 pm (each lecture will last for one hour)

The lecture is free but there are limited places available.  To reserve places please complete the online booking form.
