Windows 7 and Office 2010 are now standard on Library IT Suite & Pool Room PCs

During the summer we have updated the PCs in the Library IT Suite and Pool Rooms to Microsoft Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 2010.  In addition to this many of the existing applications have been updated to ensure compatibility with this new platform.

How does this affect me?

First of all, if you are a returning student or a member of Keele staff your IT account password will need to be reset to enable you to log on to the updated PCs.  You can do this from any of the Kiosk/Catalogue PCs in the campus Library or from your office or personal PC by pointing your web browser to the following link:

http://www.keele.ac.uk/it/passwordchanger/

Once you have reset your password you will be able to log on.  The first time you log on to a Windows 7 PC will take slightly longer than normal while your profile is created.  Once you have logged in you will notice that Office 2010 is now installed.  Any work you have created in previous versions of Office should work fine, but note that if you have an older version of Office on your own PC you may need to save your work in compatibility mode to ensure maximum compatibility whilst working in both versions.

In addition to the PC changes, student email has been moved to Google so all Keele email will now need to be accessed through a web browser.  Separate email client software is no longer installed on the PCs.  More information about the move to Google email can be found at the following link:

Staff can also access their Keele email using a web browser.  Follow the links from the Keele IT pages.

How can I get help?

If you have a problem with logging on or using the IT Suite PCs then contact the IT Service Desk in the campus Library.  If you need help with using Office 2010 there are a large number of FREE help resources available from Microsoft.  The following links should help:
