Being more interested in chemistry, he took an MSc in Industrial Chemistry and obtained his postgraduate degree from Andhra University, Vishakapatnam, India in 1999. Then he worked for two years in VIMTA LABS LTD, Hyderabad, India as an Analytical Chemist in the Foods and Drugs Division. Being more interested in doing a PhD, he resigned the job and in 2001 joined as a Project Assistant in the Herbal Drugs and Bio Remedies Department at the Regional Research Laboratory (CSIR), Bhubaneswar, India. He worked under Dr U.V. Mallavadhani and developed various Pharmacopoeial standards (phytochemical, physico chemical and pharmacognostical) for seven single and twenty three compound ayurvedic formulations, used extensively in the Indian System of medicine. Then, in 2003, he was awarded a senior research fellowship (CSIR) for three years and he continued his PhD work under the supervision of Dr U.V. Mallavadhani in the same department, where he worked on the topic 'Chemical screening of some unexplored natural sources for potent biologically active secondary metabolites'. In 2007, following the award of his PhD from Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, India, he joined as a postdoc in the Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science and worked under the supervision of Dr A. Srikrishna in the areas of natural products chemistry, organic chemistry and development of synthetic methodologies. In 2010, he was awarded a Marie Curie International Fellowship to carry out two years of postdoctoral research under the supervision of Dr William Kirk and Dr Gordon Hamilton in the School of Life Sciences, Keele University to work on pheromone identification for environmentally responsible control of thrips.
