Santander Scholarships

In partnership with Banco Santander, Keele University will be offering 9 postgraduate scholarships to outstanding candidates currently studying at a Santander partner university in South America. Each scholarship is worth £5000 and will be open to students applying to study a taught masters degree in any discipline commencing October 2012 (excludes MRes and Masters by Research).

There is no application form, all eligible students will automatically be considered and scholarships will be awarded to students demonstrating academic excellence.

In order to be considered you must:

Hold a conditional or unconditional offer for study on a postgraduate taught masters degree at Keele University before 30 April 2012

Intend to start your degree course in October 2012

Be resident in one of the following countries and liable to pay fees at the overseas student rate
Eligible countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, Venezuela


Keele International Student Scholarship

The Keele International Student Scholarship for postgraduate students from all non-EU countries is worth GBP3000 towards the cost of your Master's tuition fees. 

The Scholarships are awarded to students who can demonstrate excellence in at least two of the following areas:

* Academic qualifications,
* English Language ability,
* Understanding of the course and motivation to study at Keele,
* Extra-curricular or work experience

To apply for the KISS Scholarship you must have applied to Keele and been offered a place to study here.  You must then complete a separate application form (download KISS Application Form). Applications must have been received and processed before the start of academic year for which the application is made.  KIS Scholarships cannot be awarded to students who have already started their degree at Keele.

A committee will meet once a month to consider applications submitted for the Scholarship.  The next deadline for applications is Thursday 28th March 2013.

A third of our applicants were successful in the first round of applications - congratulations to all those who have been awarded a Scholarship.  Our successful applicants came from a variety of countries including China, Nigeria, South Africa and Vietnam and have applied for a diverse range of courses including Biomedical Blood Sciences, Finance and Management, Globalisation and Justice, Human Rights and Politics and IR.

Please note that if you have been unsuccessful we cannot consider any further applications for this award in this academic year.

The decisions on Scholarships are made by the International Recruitment Team and their decision is final.


Tuition Fee Bursaries

All American postgraduate taught students will be eligible for a 10% bursary towards the overseas rate of tuition for the course for which they are applying. In addition, all students graduating from one of our 30 North American partners (see list below) will be eligible for a further 15% bursary. Finally, if a previous exchange student from one of the partner universities decides to come back to Keele for graduate study, they will be eligible for a 50% bursary. This means that for 2012/13 tuition could be approx. £5,100 - £5,900 (approx. US/CAN$ 8,100 - $9,400) for a returning exchange student.

NAFKU Scholarships

NAFKU Scholarships are awarded by the North American Foundation for Keele University, Inc, in partnership with Keele University, Keele in America and Keele in Canada.  The award recognises one or more students of outstanding achievement each year. The Scholarship is open to students of American or Canadian nationality.

The award currently amounts to the prevailing sterling equivalent of US $ 4,000 to help off-set living and travel costs.

Aims of the North America Foundation

  • To promote the continuing support of alumni in North America
  • To seek support, through gifts and contributions, for projects and activities at Keele University
  • To promote the education, teaching, research and scholarship of Keele University
  • To encourage the ongoing relationship between Keele University and former students in North America

Eligibility for the Scholarship

Successful candidates must be accepted onto an eligible full-time taught Master’s degree programme at Keele University. To meet the criteria for outstanding academic excellence/achievement, applicants should demonstrate any one or a combination of:

  • An expectation at the time of the application to obtain a GPA of 3.5 or above (or equivalent) for their first degree
  • Motivation for the subject

To meet the criteria for outstanding achievement/contribution as an individual, candidates should demonstrate any combination of the following:

  • An achievement or contribution in citizenship in the form of making a difference to the life of the University community (this could include work on or off campus such as volunteer activity)
  • An achievement or contribution specifically connected to a sport or sporting activity
  • Overcoming hardship, disability or other personal adversity

Candidates must be of American or Canadian nationality and will also indicate good reasons why they wish to study in the UK.

Eligible graduates or graduating undergraduates may make an application for the award. Applications will demonstrate how the candidate meets the criteria for the award. Applications from candidates for the award must be submitted on the appropriate NAFKU Application Form

Closing Date

The closing date for the receipt of applications for the annual NAFKU Scholarship is 30th June in the relevant year.  Late applications will not be accepted.

Keele University also offers two full scholarship opportunities for American students:

  1. Fulbright Scholarship, whereby Keele pays the tuition fees and the US-UK Fulbright Commission pays the student’s stipend and other associated costs. Applications are via Fulbright – see http://www.fulbright.co.uk/fulbright-awards/for-us-citizens for information about how to apply and application deadlines. The online application is facilitated by IIE and is used by Fulbright Commissions worldwide.

  2. Marshall Scholarship, whereby Keele pays the tuition fees and the Marshall Commission the maintenance costs. Applications are via Marshall – see http://www.marshallscholarship.org/about/ Deadline for applications is usually October for entry the following September. Applications must be endorsed by the President, Provost, or Academic Dean of the applicant's educational institution (or employer). The online application must be submitted and authorised by a designated member of staff at the applicant's educational institution (or employer). NB: The US institution may have earlier deadlines for submission of applications. Whether this is the case or not applications must be submitted in a timely manner in order for the US institution to be able to authorise it for submission by the deadline.

Natural Science Scholarships

The £1,000 FNS Scholarship will be granted automatically to all overseas students starting a course for the first time within the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Undergraduate Level One or a postgraduate taught course, who are paying overseas fees.  This is a one off reduction in tuition fees for the first year of study only.  It is guaranteed and will be deducted from your tuition fees.


Keele Graduate Bursary

If you studied at Keele as an undergraduate you are automatically entitled to the Keele Graduate Bursary, which is worth GBP1000 towards the cost of your Master's tuition fees.  Please note that if you are awarded the Keele International Student Scholarship then you cannot also claim the Keele Graduate Bursary.


Science Without Borders

 

Science without Borders is a Brazilian Government scholarship programme to send 100,000 Brazilian students on undergraduate sandwich courses, PhD sandwich courses and full PhDs to study in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at universities across the world.

From September 2012, the UK will welcome up to 10,000 Brazilian students over the next four years.

Applications for September 2013 places in the UK will open in February 2012.


Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme

Keele is a participating university on the Tullow Group Scholarship.  For further information, and details on how to apply, please click here.  The Tullow Group Scholarship is open to students from the following countries: Ghana, Uganda, Gabon, Cote D'Ivoire, Congo Brazzaville, Kenya, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Surinam and Uruguay.

The scholarship will cover among others;

  • full tuition fees;
  • a monthly stipend;
  • travel costs;
  • warm clothing; and
  • baggage allowance

Recipients of the scholarship must:

  • Be a citizen and legally resident in participating country;
  • Ideally have a minimum of a bachelor degree or Licence (second class lower or better) or an HND (second classupper or better;
  • Be resident  in participating countries at the time of application;
  • Be currently employed with a track record of success in their field of endeavour
  • Must not have previously studied abroad or received an international scholarship
  • Must have a strong personality as well as ambition, entrepreneurial and creative spirit and leadership skills;
  • Must demonstrate commitment to return to country and make a contribution to the future development of the country; and
  • Must demonstrate a high level of competence in management, strategy and ability to train and develop others
