July – September 2012

The LPDC gained direct claim status from the Institute of Leadership and Management in July: a vote of confidence in our delivery, assessment and administration of the ILM programmes and awards we deliver to support leaders and managers across the University.

Two new part-time staff, Barbara Walmsley and Russell Crawford joined the LPDC in August to support the delivery of teaching development programmes, including teaching on the postgraduate certificate for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

The start of the new Academic Year in September saw colleagues from across SSDS welcoming new students to Keele. Whether at pre-arrival events for Disabled, Mature and Local Commuter students, delivering events throughout International Orientation and Welcome Week, managing the fantastic student ambassadors team or providing early support to students living in Halls, the start of the year was much enjoyed by all and was a huge success.  The University’s centrally managed peer mentoring scheme was launched. With over 150 current Keele students providing 1-2-1 support to nearly 300 incoming students, the future is bright for mentoring at Keele.

The Counselling and Emotional Wellbeing team began the new academic year with some significant changes. Employing a new stepped care model and welcoming Deb Boughey as Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Adviser, the first few months of the Semester have highlighted just what a success these changes to the service have been.

The start of the academic year saw the Curriculum Support and Development team lead the delivery of the development strand of the Distinctive Keele Curriculum. Almost 160 workshops have thus far been delivered to students across 43 academic programmes
