Literature Searching Healthcare Databases (NHS)

We are now running 2 versions of this course:

Literature Searching Core

This is a 2 hour course for NHS staff who wish to conduct health information research.

You will learn how to:

  • Clarify a search topic
  • Choose appropriate sources for searching
  • Devise search strategies
  • Search for and retrieve relevant information

Course content

  • Problems of identifying health information on the Internet
  • Formulating a clinical question
  • Evaluating and selecting databases
  • Devising a search strategy
  • Conducting a search
  • Refining a search
  • Saving, printing and emailing search results

Prerequisites

  • Some basic experience of using a mouse and keyboard
  • Some prior experience of using the Internet
  • NHS Athens username / password
  • Previous attendance on the course "Health Information on the Internet" is advised, though not compulsory

Literature Searching Plus

A 2 hour course for NHS staff based on the Literature Searching session above, this also includes:

  • building on skills developed in the Literature Searching session
  • dealing with more complex searches

Prerequisites

  • Previous attendence on the core Literature Searching Healthcare Databases course (see above)
