Entry Qualifications - September 2013
General Information
Candidates will normally be required to hold at least six GCSE (or equivalent) subjects taken at one sitting, at grade C or above including:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Combined or Single Science subjects.
If English is not your first lanauage you will need an IELTS score of 7
Further Information
In addition to the GCSE requirements, higher-level qualification at or above to NQF Level 3 (A-level) is required.
The following qualifications are accepted for entry.
(This list is not exhaustive and other qualifications may be considered on a case by case basis)

ABB | The candidate must hold Biology, Human Biology or Physical Education as one of the A2 subjects.
General studies is not accepted. |
| Cambridge Pre-U |
M2 | Each Cambridge Pre-U can be offered in lieu of a single A-level. The candidate can present with the Sports Studies Pre-U in lieu of an A2 in Biology, Human Biology or Physical Education . |
| BTEC National Diploma | DDD |
The strands accepted are:

| International Baccalaureate | 28 IB points | 6 IB points at higher level Biology are required. |
| Advanced Higher | ABB | In addition, six subjects at standard level taken at one sitting, grade C or above including Mathematics and English Language. |
| NVQ Level 3 | Pass | The candidate would also require an A-level (A2) in Biology, Human Biology or Physical Education. |
| Keele University Health Foundation Year | Average of 65% across 120 credits | Candidates are required to pass the Active Anatomy module with a mark of 65% or above. |
| Irish Leaving Certificate | 5 Irish Highers AABBB to include Biology |
Non-Standard Entry
We do encourage applications from those who have been out of full-time education for three years or more, and are currently undertaking full or part-time study or have recent academic achievement.
Qualifications are considered on a case by case basis but for those who do not have any NQF level 3 qualifications then we recommend the following programme:
| Access to Higher Education programme |
60 Credits At least 45 Credits at Level three (15 of these to include Biology) |
Candidates must hold GCSE Maths and English Language at Grade C or above. It is possible to take equivalent Maths and English qualifications as part of the Access programme. Your Further Education college should be able to advise you on this. All level three credits are normally expected to be at Merit level or higher. |
