O'Brian Anne

Since joining the School of Health and Rehabilitation in 1998, I have worked in varying School roles including Programme Lead, Year Head and Exams Officer and I am currently Director of Undergraduate Studies. In 2012 I was promoted to Senior Lecturer. I teach across several faculty undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Since 2002 I have been joint course Director of ASPIRE; an inter-disciplinary PG rheumatology programme run with the School of Nursing and Midwifery. My clinical area of interest is arthritis and in particular inflammatory arthritis having worked clinically for 15 years latterly as a Clinical Specialist Rheumatology Physiotherapist. I continue to be involved in national and regional related research projects. I have published four chapters in rheumatology textbooks, most recently in "Rheumatology - Evidence-based Practice for Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists" and an overview of Physiotherapy in the “Oxford Textbook of Rheumatology”.

I was awarded a Master of Philosophy Degree from Keele University in 2002. Prior to that I gained both an Associate Teacher Certificate and Post-graduate Certificate in 1999 and 2000 (Teaching and Learning in Higher Education). In 2011 I gained a Leadership and Management award (ILM). I am an approved external examiner for the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

I am a member of the Health Professions Council, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, the British Health Professionals in Rheumatology and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. For five years I was a member of the Education Sub-Committee for Arthritis Research UK (formerly known as ARC)

Following my M Phil, I was the proud recipient of the Silver Medal Prize for the best Allied Health Professional Research from the British Health Professionals in Rheumatology and Arthritis Research Campaign.

For the past ten years I have contributed as a Physiotherapy Representative on the Editorial board of the “Musculoskeletal Care” Journal.

I continue to be involved in several national and regional rheumatology research projects.
