The Vocational Rehabilitation Association (VRA) gave five students the opportunity to make a presentation on a topic of their choice at the two day annual VRA conference in Manchester. Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Psychology students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses were eligible to apply. The nationwide application process involved students identifying in 100 words the essence of their proposed presentation.

Elizabeth (Lizzie) White from Keele University won one of these five places and was the only undergraduate physiotherapy student to present at the conference. Her presentation was entitled “Multiple Sclerosis: The Barriers to Employment”. Although not the winning entry Lizzie's was congratulated by Andrew Frank (The VRA Chair) who expressed keen interest in her presentation. Following the conference the five students were featured on the VRA website and were also mentioned in the editor’s note of “rehab window” newsletter.

Although nervous at giving her first conference presentation Lizzie thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity offered by participation in this event. Despite the hard work and preparation Lizzie would encourage other students to particpate in this or similar activities wherever they get the chance.
