I have been Senior Lecturer at Keele since 2010. Prior to this I worked at the University of Manchester as a Senior Teaching Fellow. I obtained a distinction in my Masters in Medical Education at Cardiff University. My dissertation looked at the role of students in the standard-setting process. I am currently undertaking a PhD in Medical Education at Maastricht University. I work part-time as a GP in Manchester.
I am currently undertaking a PhD at Maastricht University under the supervision of Cees van der Vleuten, Karen Könings and Val Wass, and in close collaboration with Adrian Molyneux. The aim of this PhD is to devise a model to understand feedback in the context of summative assessment in the hope that a better understanding will lead to practical benefits for students and institutions. Feedback in these circumstances has the potential both to help students who fail a summative assessment as well as those who are competent but who need to aspire towards excellence. Although it is expected that the research will develop insights into both groups of students, it is intended that the primary focus of the research will be on the development of students from competence to excellence. There is a need to develop a system of delivering feedback that is feasible and which delivers feedback to students in a simple-to-understand format. The relative merits of electronic, written and verbal feedback are as yet not clear.
