I was appointed Professor of Academic General Practice at Keele in 2007.

I completed my clinical and academic training in N Ireland before my appointment as a SL in General Practice in Leicester.

I have conducted research in asthma, chronic pain, the last year of life, the health care consultation and health services provision using a wide range of methodologies from qualitative approaches to RCTs. My current research focuses on:

  • Assessment and enhancement of the skills of health professionals
  • Development of reliable and valid measures of skills
  • Development of reliable and valid patient report measures
