Facilities
Keele School of Medicine is based on several sites, with the principal buildings based on the University main campus and within the University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS) three miles away. In addition, we have an Associate Teaching Hospital at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) in Shropshire, and developing bases at Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, Stafford; the South Staffordshire & Shropshire Healthcare Foundation Trust at St. George’s Hospital Stafford; and at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare Trust. All our student doctors should expect to spend time at all our campuses during all 5 years of their course
The Medical School building at Keele Campus was opened in September 2003, and contains everything that one would expect in a modern purpose built facility, including a large lecture theatre, seminar rooms, IT suite, an anatomy suite, multi user laboratories, a resource room, student common room and social gathering and refreshment areas. In addition to this the University provides library and information services that are available seven days a week until 10 pm in the evenings, in the Information Services building.
At the UHNS Hospital Campus, the undergraduate course is centred around two educational buildings, the Keele University Medical School (Hospital Campus) building, opened in 2003, and the Clinical Education Centre, opened in 2004. Both buildings are light and airy, and contain the usual teaching facilities such as seminar rooms, with a lecture theatre and student common room at the Medical School building . The Clinical Education Centre contains clinical skills laboratories and a multi-professional Health Library. Both buildings are also shared with the School of Nursing & Midwifery, and Postgraduate teaching.
In addition, there are a range of seminar/meeting rooms strategically placed around the hospital adjacent to wards and other clinical areas to assist in teaching close to or in contact with patients and other professional colleagues.
At the SaTH campus, the new Learning Centre includes a multi-professional library, seminar rooms, an IT suite and a student resource room. We also produce specialised educational software and e-learning resources such as our virtual microscope.
There are similar facilities at Mid-Staffordshire Trust and at St. George’s Hospital in Stafford.
