This module will introduce those who are working or planning to work in the field of public health to the tools of population health assessment, theoretical frameworks for understanding how public health and social policy are developed, implemented and evaluated. It will also provide a basis for understanding the relationships between individual circumstances and their social context.
This module is available as:
- a compulsory core within PGDip/MSc Specialist Community Public Health Nursing
- a programme/ approved elective within MSc Advancing Professional Practice
- a free standing elective
To enable students to:
- develop their knowledge of key public health indicators, public health policy and community based interventions. - gain insight into evidence about improving health and reducing health inequalities.
- introduce tools for holistic assessment of health and social needs within the wider determinants of health
For those undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing Programme, specific award entry requirements apply; no other pre-requisites are required.
For those undertaking as an elective/freestanding module; healthcare practitioner with a minimum of 6 months experience and working within a relevant health care setting.
