What we are doing
The University is responsible for over 62 kilometres of underground water, gas, electricity, drainage and collection infrastructure on the University campus, which is managed by the Estates and Development Directorate.
Keele University is committed to reducing carbon emissions from all its activities and services, through improved energy efficiency and awareness raising. The commitment also extends to reducing indirect emissions from purchasing, waste and travel.

Energy and Carbon ManagementThe University’s Carbon Management Plan commits to a 34% reduction in carbon emissions by 2020 based on 1990 levels. Our Carbon Footprint not only covers gas and electricity consumption but also waste, water and business travel. Find out more . |

Waste and RecyclingKeele University recycled 42% of all waste generated in 2011. |

Energy Awareness + ConsumptionEnergy Performance charts are updated every month, in line with our Carbon Management Plan. “Real time” electricity consumption charts have been developed by utilising Automatic Meter Reads (AMR). The data helps building users understand their usage and target reductions. |

Standards and AwardsKeele University was one of the first Higher Education Institutions to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard for achieving a year on year reduction in carbon emissions. |
