Learning about Sustainability
Since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the importance of education in achieving a sustainable future (often referred to as Education for Sustainable Development –ESD or Education for Sustainability - EfS) has been internationally recognised. The goals of ESD are to ensure everyone is able to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary to shape a sustainable future. In recognition of the importance of ESD, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2005-2014 the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
