Keele University Sustainability Hub Swish Roadshow
26 October 2012 Varies VariesWhat is Swishing?
In short, swishing is clothes swapping with friends and acquaintances. Swishing parties are becoming ever more popular, and they are a great way to get rid of unwanted clothes and swapping them for items you love. Swishing is fun, environmentally friendly, and it saves you money.
Why Swish?
Clothes are something we all use and are something we don't always think of as a use of resources. We often don't consider what happens to our clothes at the end of their life.
Clothes manufacture requires the use of materials and resources. Recycling and reusing your clothes not only reduces the amount of waste that goes to landfill but also means you need to buy less new clothes.
This means reducing use of chemicals, dyes and oil. It also means less production on hidden carbon in the transport of clothes.
Recycling 1 kg of clothes represents a saving of 3.6kg of CO2 emissions and 6000 m3 of water (an Olympic swimming pool only holds 2500m3).
Keele Swishing Roadshow - Get Involved
After the successful swishing party held at Keele Sustainability Hub this year, Keele Sustainability Hub is hosting the Hub Swish Roadshow throughout Staffordshire - but we need your help. In order for the swishing roadshow to get going we are asking individuals, groups and businesses to get involved by throwing your own swishing event. Keele Sustainability Hub will be able to provide you with some of the necessary resources to make your swishing event a success, including clothing, clothes rails and advertising.
