Supporting and Monitoring your Doctoral Research Students

The University’s research degree programmes rely fundamentally on the skills and commitment of the supervisory team. The relationship between the student and supervisors is crucial to the student’s success, and all parties have a responsibility to make it work.

The roles and responsibilities of the supervisors and supervisory teams are set out in the Code of Practice on Postgraduate Research Degrees 2011  section 1.6, supplemented by Annex D3 which also includes extracts from the revised Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) Code of Practice on Postgraduate Research Programmes.

Procedures for the approval of supervisors and mentors are set out in Annex B6 of the Code of Practice on Postgraduate Research Degrees 2011. Forms for approval are available here.
