Prestigious History of Geology award for Hugh Torrens

The Executive Committee of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) accepted the proposal of the IUGS Commission on the History of Geological Sciences (INHIGEO) and awarded Emeritus Professor Hugh Torrens the “Vladimir V. Tikhomirov History of Geology Award.”

With this award the international geological community represented by IUGS acknowledges his outstanding contributions on the history of geology, history of technology and industrial archeology, and his strong support to this important field of the geological sciences.

The award was officially presented during the sessions of the 34th International Geological Congress (Brisbane, 5-10 August 2012), in a special Awards Ceremony.
