Helping to end nuclear testing!
Sam Toon took part in the CTBTO OSI Build Up Exercise 3 in Veszprem, Hungary from May 25th to June 7th 2013. The was the final exercise in the preparations for the Integrated Field Exercise (IFE) that will take place in Jordan in 2014.
This exercise simulated the continuation period of an On-Site Inpspection (OSI). The purpose of the exercise was to test the procedures, equipment and inspection team functionality before the IFE next year. The scenario of the exercise was to find evidence to determine whether or not an underground nuclear explosion (UNE) had occurred within the inspection area. The techniques used included visual observation, seismic aftershock monitoring, radionuclide and various near surface geophysical techniques. Sam was involved with both the seismic aftershock and geophysical teams.
