Welcome to the Foundation Year at Keele

Foundation Year Bungalow

When you arrive at the end of September you will be joining the longest running university foundation year. In order to help you prepare for your time here, some useful information is provided below. However, if you have any questions which are not answered on this page, then please do feel free to get in touch with us.

Finding Your Way Around

Keele’s campus is the largest in the UK; however, the essential areas are clustered around the central region. You can use this Keele University colour campus map and guide to find your way around. The Foundation Year Centre is based in Bungalow 77 (building 20 on the map – photograph above). If at any time you do not know where you should be, cannot find a room, or miss a session, please call into the Foundation Year Centre for directions or advice. Similarly, the Foundation Year Centre will be your first port of call if you require any information or have difficulties.

The First Week

The academic year is divided into two semesters. The first week of the first semester will be the induction week. The various scheduled sessions will help you know where you need to be, who the people are that you need to know and what you will need to have with you etc. Therefore, you do not need to worry in advance about finding out this kind of information.

It is essential that you attend the introductory session for your foundation year. In the case of the Health, Humanities, Social Science and Science Foundation Years, and the International Degree Programme that is at 9.30 am on Monday 24 September in Lennard Jones building Room LJ 1.75 (Building 17 on the Campus Map). For the one-year General Foundation Year and International Foundation Year students your first session is at 2 pm on 24 September in Lennard Jones building Room LJ 1.75.(Building 17 on the Campus Map). At these sessions you will be told what will happen over the remainder of the induction week and we shall confirm the modules that you will be taking on your programme.

What You Will Need

It will be helpful if you have with you a diary, notepaper, pens, pencils, an eraser and pencil sharpener, ruler and computer memory stick. You will be told if you need any more specialist equipment in the first few days. Similarly, you will be told about the textbooks associated with your course at the beginning of each module. There will be copies of these in the library and in the campus bookshop.
