Five great reasons to choose Keele:
1. For a campus university
As a leading example of a university campus community, Keele offers a safe and friendly environment where everything you need is on the doorstep. Set in acres of woods and parkland, Keele is also one of the most beautiful campuses in the UK.
2. For a convenient location
Keele is centrally located in Staffordshire, only one hour from Manchester or Birmingham and under two hours from London. Nearby rail stations have direct links to these locations and more.
3. For graduate employment
Keele graduates have some of the highest employment rates in the UK. The University has been rated 11th in the country for graduate prospects.
4. For subject breadth
Keele’s innovative approach to education means that our students leave with the breadth of education that today’s employers are looking for. Most of our undergraduate courses are dual honours, and all degree programmes allow students to develop practical, transferable skills in conjunction with academic excellence.
5. For great student satisfaction
In 2008, Keele was rated amongst the best UK University for student satisfaction, achieving an overall satisfaction score of 88% in the National Student Survey. High standards of teaching and an excellent student support system ensure that Keele students get the best from their time here.
Picture the scene
Tom sits in the half-light of his room, his eyes flicking between the pile of prospectuses that are laid chaotically on top of his desk and the arresting Buñuel and Scorsese posters that adorn his biscuit coloured walls. Rain patters gently against his window seeping from a moonless sky. His fingers flicker, without warning, inducing the lustrous light from his laptop screen to re-emerge, dazzling his weary eyes. “Love Keele”, he reads… perhaps, he thinks, perhaps…
Images fill his mind, dredged from his not-too-distant memory of a campus bathed in sun-light. He can see it, feel it, smell the cut grass and hear the echoes of laughter that trail in the air on the waves of the summer breeze. But now it’s October, he thinks, clinging on to the remnants of warmth in his imagination. October, and closer even still to making a decision, the decision – about where he should spend the next three years, hopefully the best three years, he thinks, of his life.
Keele. He imagines himself sat on a cold winter’s morning in one of the many steaming coffee bars reading a library book on Film Noir, its brilliant glossy pages littered with analyses, arguments and beautiful black and white still plates. Later those haunting shadows of noir will fill the big screen in the lecture theatre captivating him with beauty. Tutorials filled with debate and discussion about camera angles, lighting and motifs follow, opening him up to new readings, new thoughts, new knowledge. The grittiness of British cinema and social realism, the beauty of French cinematography and decadent composition, the popularity and political power of American cinema – all equally magnetic, equally spectacular. On campus the films he has resisted the urge to buy are awaiting him like allies in the cosy library. Film. His passion, his life, his love…
A voice calling him from downstairs disturbs his engagement with Hitchcock, Meadows, Godard and Spielberg and suddenly the luminosity of his screen hits him again, bringing him back to his room. The atmosphere feels less weighty and a smile lingers on his lips. “I’ll be down in a moment”, he utters faintly. He sounds the same, but he is changed. “I’ll be there”, he asserts more firmly.
