I have worked at Keele since my first appointment as Lecturer in Russian in 1972. I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1989, and to Reader in 1993. I was awarded a personal chair in January 1995.
My research concentrates on nineteenth-century Russian literature and I have an international reputation as a leading
specialist in issues of gender in Russian literature. Recently, I have also moved into cinema
research, and have already published three refereed articles in this field.
Current Projects
Robert Reid and I are currently editing for publication two volumes of papers from the 2006 conference on Turgenev: ‘Turgenev and His Contemporaries’. I am also currently engaged on a collaborative volume on women in nineteenth-century Russian literature with American and Finnish specialists.
