Go Green Week 9 -13 February 2009
Welcome to Keele's first ever Go Green Week. It's a chance to celebrate what we've already achieved here at Keele and to take things further.
We are already launching new environmental courses and engaged in leading environmental research. And we've recently announced plans for a carbon neutral campus and a 'sustainability hub' to bring many of these initiatives together.
Go Green Week offers the opportunity to get involved in a whole range of activities. Take a look at the diary of events by clicking below;

Go Green Week Pledges Board
What changes can you make to live more sustainably for Go Green Week? We've set up a pledge board to help you make a public commitment to the changes you will make for the week - or for longer.... Pledges can be big or small ways in which you can change your behaviour for the week (or longer) to reduce your impact on the environment.

Careers
Find out about Social Responsibility in Business with Geof Cox, freelance Social Enterprise Developer, who has worked with some of the UK's largest charities such as the RNIB and Oxfam. Click here for more details.
Travel
Take the Go Green Week challenge and leave your car at home on Thursday 12th February. Why not walk, cycle, catch the train or bus instead? If you need to travel by car can you lift share? If you are committed to make a change for the week, or just one day, why not make a Go Green Week Pledge?
On Thursday 12th the local bus companies will be on hand in Chancellor's Building to answer your questions and provide timetables. Staffordshire County Council will also be there with details of the Share-A-Lift scheme.
During the week the tractors used by CFM Estates will be running on biodiesel.
Recycling
During Go Green Week the University will be launching a new recycling scheme for halls of residence, with a fortnightly kerbside collection from the bin areas in Horwood, Lindsay, Holly Cross and The Oaks. There will also be additional recycling points at the Students' Union, Hawthorns and Barnes. The scheme will run for one month and if it is successful will become permanent. For details of what can be recycled please see the Recycling Flyer (PDF Format).
Energy
Tuesday 10 February sees the launch of the Barnes Energy League. Each block in the hall will compete to save the most energy. Energy Champions will be in the Student Union from 10am-4pm talking to students about ways you can save energy.
The Barnes League will run for the entire term and a prize will be given to the residents of the block that saves the most energy.
Food and Drink
During Go Green Week you can save money and reduce waste by taking a reusable cup (with a proper fitted lid) to Vite and Eat. Do this four times and your next cup of coffee will be free! Don't be a mug - reuse your cup!
KUSU will also be reducing the amount of waste and will not be serving 'eat in' food in polystyrene containers.
Look out for vegetarian and vegan specials during the week at both Comus and the KPA Clubhouse.
Green Campus
We're fortunate at Keele in having so many trees on campus. Dave Emley and Peter Thomas will share their knowledge of the Keele Arboretum through a winter walk around campus.
Entertainment
It's Green Night at the KUSU on Wednesday 11 February. Watch out for a whole range of entertainment on a 'green' theme!
Wider Community
Keele students are involved with the local community in many ways. We're holding a Green Coffee Afternoon in Keele Village Hall on Wednesday 11 February.
