Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
Previously the Centre for Professional Ethics applied for CPD points for their Masters Degrees in Medical Ethics and Law and Cancer and Palliative Care via the Royal College of Physicians.
However, the Royal College of Physicians no longer formally approves MA courses for CPD purposes. It is possible for students to record their participation on these courses in their CPD diaries. This information can be recorded in the "MSc and equivalent" section of the diary, at a maximum of 50 external CPD credits per CPD year. One CPD credit equals on hour of educational activity with a maximum of 6 points per day. The CPD year runs from 1st April - 31st March.
Further information about the CPD diary can be found at http://www.rcplondon.ac.uk
Each college has its own system for CPD points. For example the Royal College of Anaesthetists recognise the internal component of a higher degree as a single event. Recognition depends on the relevance to the individual's needs and their agreed development plan within their department. For further information contact cpd@rcoa.ac.uk
However please be aware that the entire CPD system is currently under review and therefore the situation may change. For the most up to date information please check with your line manager or the relevant College.
Taking things further
