Standards and Awards
Carbon Trust Standard
Keele University was one of the first universities to be awarded the Carbon Trust Standard and has since developed a year-on-year commitment to reducing CO2 levels.
The Carbon Trust Standard was developed to encourage good practice in carbon measurement and reduction by private businesses and public sector organisations.
For the latest re-certification, a score of 90% was achieved within the qualitative assessment, demonstrating effectiveness in carbon accounting and management - it was the highest score in the region (including private and public sector bodies) and the highest achieved in the Higher Education sector.
The re-certification report states: "This is an outstanding assessment with much commendable forward planning”.
Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC)
Keele University was one of just 22 businesses to top the first ever government Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) league table.
CRC is a mandatory government scheme launched in April 2010 to improve energy efficiency and cut emissions in large public and private sector organisations. Keele University was the only Higher Education institution to get top marks in the table which ranks participants in terms of their early action to manage their energy. More information here.
