Drinking Water

In today's society we are accustomed to everything being very disposable. We buy products, use them and when they are no longer of use, throw the remains away. However there are wider social and environmental costs associated to our consumption. Apart from the cost we all see: the price we pay for the product, there are other indirect costs that may go unnoticed but nevertheless exist. The impact in terms of fossil fuels, greenhouse gas emissions; fresh water; land degredation.

Bottled water, when compared to tap water, has a considerable environmental impact. This includes the transport and production of the bottles. You can reduce your personal environmental footprint by reducing the amount of bottled water (and other bottled drinks) you buy and instead drink from safe tap water in refillable bottles. (please ensure you refill from designated drinking water).

Did You Know?

  • Approximately 81 tonnes of plastic bottle waste is generated at Keele University every year! This is 4% of the total waste.
  • If you need to dispose of a plastic bottle on campus please recycle in one of our clearly labelled internal bins.
