Campus-wide Recycling Scheme

recycling image The University’s waste policy follows the simple principles of the waste hierarchy to reduce waste at source, reuse materials where possible and recycle as much of the waste as we can. The University aims to become “Zero waste to landfill” and launched a new Waste recycling scheme in late 2010. Recycling facilities are available campus wide, including in halls of residences.

The University's waste contractor collects dry mixed recyclables from external bin stores on campus, which is sent for sorting and processed into the individual waste recycling streams. Internal recycling bins are available across all academic and central services buildings and are split into a two bin system, for ease of use:

  1. Paper and cardboard recycling bin

Recycling bins will have blue lids for the following:
    Paper & Cardboard
    Newspapers & Magazines
  2. Plastics and cans recycling bin

Recycling bins will have green lids for the following:
Plastic- Drinks bottles, cups, milk bottles, plastic shrink wrap, magazine wrappers
Cans- Aluminium drinks cans, tin cans

All the recyclables will be emptied into clearly labelled external mixed recycling euro bins and collected by the contractor who will take away for sorting and recycling. Please have a look at the guide
