Hot Jupiter Exoplanets
Lead Supervisor: Dr Pierre Maxted
The WASP project has discovered over 50 bright, new transiting hot Jupiter exoplanets. These are ideal systems for studying the composition, formation and dynamics of exoplanet systems. The project will use measurements of the nearinfrared and mid-infrared flux through the eclipses of selected exoplanets to determine the properties of their strongly irradiated hemispheres. These observations will be used to constrain the composition and structure of their atmospheres and to measure the eccentricity of the planet's orbit.
