Beth Johnson joined the School as a lecturer in Film, Visual Theory and English in 2009. Having completed her AHRC funded PhD at Lancaster University in 2008, her research interests and teaching specialisms include aesthetics, ocularcentrism, screening sexualities, realism, psychoanalysis, the ‘cult’ and the avant garde in European cinema. She currently teaches on and leads modules in various filmic areas across all degree levels.

Beth''s present research focuses on expressions of filmic extremism and televisual chaos. Beth is currently completing a monograph on the works of television auteur 'Paul Abbott' for Manchester University Press (forthcoming 2012) and co-editing a collection for Continuum Press entitled 'Television, Sex and Society: Analysing Contemporary Representations' (forthcoming 2012).
