To register for electives from a previous level of study
You may be allowed to proceed into your next level of study if you have not passed all of your modules.
If this applies to you, in early September you will receive final confirmation in your progression email that you are allowed to proceed into your next level of study (after the re-assessment period in August).
If you are proceeding into Level II with level I modules outstanding you will either have to take re-assessment in your failed level I modules (you are allowed up to 3 attempts in total) or you may be able to select a new level I elective module to take and pass during your level II studies.
If you have failed a level I Compulsory core or Option core module. You must take re-assessment in your failed module.
If you have failed a level I Compulsory core or Option core module and have changed your course at level II you may be allowed to replace your failed core module with a level I elective. You should contact the Student Support and Experience team to get confirmation if you believe this applies to you studentexperience@keele.ac.uk, phone 01782 734481. If the Student Support and Experience team confirm that you can replace your failed core module with a level I elective you should then contact the Electives Office to register for an appropriate elective module.
If you have failed an Approved Programme Elective or Free-standing Elective we will assume that you will take re-assessment in your failed level I elective module (you are allowed up to 3 attempts in total) but if you wish you can choose to register for and take a different level I Approved Programme or Free-standing elective during your Level II study. It will be your responsibility contact the Electives Office to register for an appropriate elective module if you decide to take another module.
If you decide to, or are required to, study a completely new level I (FHEQ level 4) module then please note that you will only be allowed a maximum of 2 attempts at passing that module. This is in line with the revised regulations - please refer to regulation 11.5a. at:

You MUST pass any outstanding level I modules during your Level II study. You will NOT be allowed to proceed into your 3rd year with less than 120 level I credits.
If you are proceeding into your Level III with a level II module outstanding you will either have to take re-assessment in your failed level II module (you are allowed up to 3 attempts in total) or you may be able to select a new level II elective module to take and pass during your level III studies. If you do not pass your outstanding level II module during your Level III study there may be an impact on your final degree classification.
Registering for electives to make up credits
There will be a number of opportunities for you to register for a new electives from your previous level of study as follows:
If applicable, in early September you will be sent an electives selection form to be completed and returned by no later than Thursday 26th September 2013. This deadline is to ensure that we have time to register you onto your chosen prior level elective module prior to the start of the Autumn semester.
You will have a very short timescale to complete and return your elective form. You will need to research the elective modules and find one of interest to you that fits with your timetable.
If you are a level II student
You will be instructed to use the level I electives for level II students search function on the electives website to find the elective modules available to you.
If you are a level III student
You will be instructed to use the level II electives for level III students search function on the electives website to find the elective modules available to you.
Please take time to research the modules and please note that you cannot repeat a module you have previously taken.
Once you have made your choice please complete the form and return it to Electives Office, The Walter Moberly Building, Keele University Staffordshire, ST5 5BG by NO LATER THAN 26TH SEPTEMBER 2013.
After 26th September you will be not be able to make your selections until week one of the new academic year.
You will therefore have to visit the Electives Help Desk in person to register for your chosen modules. The Electives Help Desk will be held in the Chancellor’s building Exhibition Suite on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd October between 10am and 4pm.
You should also come to the electives Help Desk if you have not been allocated the correct number of elective modules on your Module Confirmation Form or if you have simply changed your mind about your elective choices.
Please ensure that you have researched the modules available to you and made sure that it is available by checking it is not full.
From Thursday 3rd October you can register or change your elective choices by visiting the Electives office. You will find us in the Walter Moberly building (no. 6 on your map). We are open for student consultation 10am to 1pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Please ensure that you have researched the modules available to you and made sure that it is available by checking it is not full.
You may also email your choices to electives@keele.ac.uk If you decide to email your selections you will be registered and you will receive a confirmation email confirming the details. If you choose to email please include your Keele card number in order that your record can be found easily.
You MUST register for ALL of your elective modules by NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER 2013, which is the end of week 3 of teaching in semester 1.
You will NOT be allowed to change your Autumn semester (Semester 1) elective modules AFTER FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER 2013.
You will NOT be allowed to change your Spring semester (Semester 2) elective modules AFTER FRIDAY 14th FEBRUARY 2014.
Finding out about the modules allocated to you
You will receive an email to your Keele email account no later than Monday 30th September confirmng your modules.
If there is a problem with the number of modules you have been allocated to or which modules you have been allocated, then you should visit the Electives Help Desk in the Chancellor’s Building Exhibition Suite, which will be held on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd October 2013 between 10am and 4pm.
The Electives Help Desk is also a chance for you to revise your choices if you wish.
From 3rd October 2013 you can visit the Electives office. You will find us in the Walter Moberly building (no. 6 on your map). We are open for student consultation 10am to 1pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Once you have been allocated to the correct number and type of elective modules, we strongly encourage you to stick with your choices. However, if you do wish to change or withdraw from any elective module you must visit the Electives Office.
You MUST register for ALL of your elective modules by NO LATER THAN FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER 2013, which is the end of week 3 of teaching in semester 1.
You will NOT be allowed to change your Autumn semester (Semester 1) elective modules AFTER FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER 2013.
You will NOT be allowed to change your Spring semester (Semester 2) elective modules AFTER FRIDAY 14th FEBRUARY 2014.
Please note that individual Schools are not able to authorise any additions, changes and withdrawals to elective modules, even if they teach these modules. All changes must be made via the Electives Office.
