Step 1 – Access to your I.T. account
You will be sent your I.T. account details to the home email address that you have already provided to the University. This will give you access to the student portal that you will need during your time at University.
The student portal contains
- eVision - For details about your course, credit summary, registered modules and results
- Your University email account
- The Keele Learning Environment (KLE)
- Your Online timetable
Once you have your User name and Password, you will be required to complete a pre-enrolment process in eVision.
Once you have logged into the student portal, click on the green The Office tab which will take you to the eVision pages.
You should also access your Keele email. Once you have received your Keele IT account information all University communication will be sent to your Keele email address.
The first time you access your Keele email account you will have an email entitled Principal Subject/s and Module Confirmation. This will confirm the modules that you are studying and will advise you of how many elective and/or option modules you will need to choose.
Step 2 Researching your electives
Step 2 - Researching your elective choices
We have a huge range of elective modules and you will find details of the electives that you are able to choose, based on the timetable of your principal subject/s on our electives website. www.keele.ac.uk/electives. From the modules page you will need to select your level of study, the level of elective modules you require and then use the tables to select your degree. This will give you are full list of both Approved programme and Free-standing elective modules that you are eligible to study.
Remember, you can choose approved programme electives, free standing electives or a combination of the two. Approved programme electives are subject-related and these modules will count towards the minimum number of subject related credits you need to be able to be awarded your named degree. Free-standing electives are modules that count towards your degree but not count toward the minimum number of subject related credits you need to be able to be awarded your named degree.
Modern Languages modules
Modern Languages are available to most students as electives. Languages offered are Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. You can join at different levels from absolute beginners to post-A-level and if you wish to do so you can continue your language studies throughout your time at Keele.
If you are unsure about the correct level for you please contact the Language Learning Unit by e-mail at languages@keele.ac.uk for guidance. International Students
All students whose first language is not English or who have been educated abroad will be pre-allocated onto an English language module that will assist your studies. This will count as one of your electives module choices. Do not change this selection when you register your electives choices online.
On arrival at Keele, as part of the Induction Week you will be given an introduction to the English Language Unit and take a brief language assessment. Based on your needs and preferences and in consultation with English Language Unit staff, you may be moved into a different English language module that will help strengthen the language skills you will need to succeed in your academic studies, or you may be advised that you do not need to take an English Language module and you can replace it with another elective module.
