Subject Knowledge Enhancement Programmes

Pre-Teacher Education

We currently offer a 36 week Subject Knowledge Enhancement programme in the following subject areas:

  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Mathematics
  • Physics

All Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses commence in September of the academic year and run through to July. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will then move on to their chosen course of Initial Teacher Education.  In considering an applicant for the Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course, Keele University will use its PGCE/School Direct selection criteria as part of the process.   The University offers GCSE equivalence tests in English Language and Mathematics for those successful applicants for Subject Knowledge Enhancement and PGCE/School Direct Courses at Keele University.

Post-Teacher Education

We currently run a Post/Professional Graduate Certificate In Education  - Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) In-Service programme in the following subjects:  

  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Modern Foreign Language 

This programme is a part-time one year scheme of study for in-service teachers.  It consists of taught sessions and seminars based at Keele University and practice based research and study within individual participant’s employing school/college.  

Through undertaking this programme, you will broaden your subject knowledge so that you can teach successfully beyond the discipline in which you originally trained, whilst concurrently providing you with the opportunities to analyse and reflect in a critical manner on the practice of self and others within the classroom setting.
