Welcome to School Direct at Keele University

Keele University is working very closely with Partnership schools to deliver the new Government initiative 'School Direct' training programmes.  The programmes seek to give opportunities for schools to play a key role in the way in which initial teacher training (ITT) is delivered, and to ensure that the best potential teachers are recruited to the profession.

Associate Teachers (postgraduate trainees) undertake placements in their School Direct school, as well as placements in other educational settings. On successful completion of the programme, Associate Teachers emerge as 'highly employable', with an award of Post/Professional Certificate in Education (PGCE) with a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

There are two training routes available through School Direct:

School Direct Training Programme

Open to all graduates; tuition fees paid by the trainee, who may receive a bursary from the Teaching Agency.

School Direct Training Programme (Salaried)

Employment-based route into teaching for graduates with three or more years’ career experience. This will replace the Graduate Teacher route from September 2013. The trainee is employed as an unqualified teacher by a school and their salary and training is subsidised by the Teaching Agency.
